Point your phone browser to http://gmail.com/app. It will automatically detect the OS and download a 115 K application. Launch it and u got GMail right there on your mobile. I tried it on my Nokia E70 and it worked fine in both screen positions.
Don't try the above link on your PC. It won't take you to the right place.
