Note: All the files needed were downloaded from this thread.
First I installed the .sis file in phone memmory, got the "Missing resources.." error. Next I installed it in the MMC, then got the 1 second start-up. After trying every method posted here, I accidentally stumbled on the right combination.
Don't get your hopes up too high, because although the program runs, it still cant find the internal GPS, but may work with a bluetooth device.
Here is what I did:
Step 1: Connect phone to computer in "Mass storage" mode. Not Nokia Suite. Browse to the storage card from your PC. Go to Tools, Folder Options, VIew and make sure the "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
Step 2: Install the Route66 file in on the storage card in the \system\apps folder. Do not install the whole system file over an existing system file.
Note: Ensure you set to view hidden/system files, because there is probably already a system\apps folder. Place the Route66 folder and its contents inside that folder.
Step 3: Place one of the maps from this site ( I used South Africa) in the MMC\system\apps\Route66\maps folder.
Step 4: disconnect phone pc, and reconnect with nokia Suite.
Step 5: Install the mobile7.sis (Choose install in MMC)
Step 6: Disconnect phone from PC
Step 7: Try to run Route 66. It will most likely run for one second and then stop and close the program. During this time it creates a file called "ActivationKey.dat" in the Route66 folder installed previously.
Step 8: Connect to PC in "Mass Storage" mode again, and browse to MMC\system\apps\Route66.
Step 9: Right click the "Activation.dat" file and select "Open with" notepad. enter "1111111111111111" (in theory, any 16 characters, but this worked for me). Then click "Save".
Step 10: Disconnect from PC.
Step 11: Try to start Route66 again. Hopefully it works now.
If it works, keep adding maps and select them from within the running program.
Good luck.

Extra Notes:
I tried installing the Fonts as suggested, and no change.
Bluetooth on or off did not help. So far, I could not get it to sense the internal gps of the N95. But the program runs.
The maps from the sight work. I used the South Africa, Macau, and Taiwan. There seems to be a Zoom Problem on the Asia maps, but if you select "Zoom to overview" it will zoom you out.
I deleted all the other language and speech files other that the one I use (American English), and it seemed to cause no problem.
