T68 infrared problem to notebook

Posted: 10-03-2003, 11:03 AM
I am trying to get my Ericcson T68 to communicate with an IBM Thinkpad 600E
but unless the respective ports are virtually touching (distance <5mm),
there is no signal.

The infrared ports on both devices are enabled.

Anyone else had this problem? It's probably something simple but it's
defeated me.

Cheers

Phil

Try slowing the bit rate on the infrared port on the laptop. The infrared
on the T68 seems to work better at slower speeds. Also, make sure you're
in a low light situation - daylight messes up infrared. Some infrared
ports are also affected by power management.

You should not have to place them that close -- in fact, IBM recommends a
minimum distance of 6" to a maximum of 3 feet.
