Xtnd Connect and T610

Posted: 09-11-2003, 02:49 PM
Is there an alternative to XTNDCONNECT when linking a T610 to a PC with
bluetooth. While the Belkin bluetooth file transfer works effortlessly,
XTNDCONNECT sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I have created the
virtual comm port OK as needed, but I cannot get XTNDCONNECT to work
consistently. It sometimes does and sometimes doesn't. Better software must
be out there for syncing contacts & appointments b/w Outlook and the T610
using bluetooth?

XtndConnect is certainly not the most robust sw I have ever used. I find
that by manually making the serial connection before running Xtnd connect I
get better results. I have heard of other programs but I haven't used any of
them.

You can synchronise using the built in Bluetooth OBEX. Have a look in our
Bluetooth Guides for some information.

It's not as flexible as XTNDConnect, because there's no filter, all records
are synchronised - but this was an issue with older mobile phones with
limited memory (like the T39m).

Thanks Mauricio, I'll take a look -- although I have more than 500 contacts
in Outlook and filtering therefore is a big advantage for me. I think the
first software company that offers a decent, reliable sync. option with
filtering for bluetooth is on a winner. If anyone knows of other
alternatives, please let me know. Thank you.

There is phone synch software called Data Pilot but it doesn't appear that
they support Bluetooth nor the SE 610 at this time. I was amazed when I
actually did a search at how little there is for synching phones to PCs.

By the way you have a great site but I couldn't access the second set of
instructions about syncing w/o xtndconnect. I still hope either they
deliver a better product or there is some alternative syncing/filtering
software. Regards Chris Griffith.

I have another idea. I can link my PC and Toshiba e570 PDA by USB or wifi
and use active sync then update the contacts in my Ericsson T610 phone via
the PDA rather than directly from the PC to the PDA using XtndConnect.
Doesd anyone know whether:
(a) ActiveSync works with Wifi, and (2)
(b) I am using an excellent product SmartGSM in my PDA which supports both
bluetooth and wifi cards. I am hoping SmartGSM can use blueooth as easily
as it does Infrared. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks...

You mean this one: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=974. It's
working fine (or so it seems as of Sunday PM NZ Time).

Yes, you can ActiveSync over wi-fi

The problem appears to be that after I use xtndconnect (successfully) the
T610 is left with bluetooth still busy. I cant turn it off w/o turning the
phone off. If I switch the phone off and on, turn blue tooth off then on,
then I can usually sync again .. w/o redefining the blue tooth serial port.
