How slow is the P800?

Posted: 08-20-2003, 06:36 PM
Okay...it looks like ATTWS is getting ready to finally start selling the
P800 (my local store just received a dummy phone yesterday, and other
accounts say that it will go on sale at the end of August.)

Two weeks ago I bought a new iPaq 2200 PocketPC. I'm not a heavy PDA user,
so I think I would be better off having a single device - I always carry a
phone, so if the phone has PDA features, I'm more likely to make use of
them.

Anyway - I gotta decide whether to keep the iPaq, or take it back before the
30 days are up (actually, I need to make sure it isn't 14 days) and get a
P800.

I currently use a T68i. I consider the phone to be too slow and clumsy.
I've heard some people say that the P800 is "sluggish". But, _relatively_
speaking, is it the same magnitude of sluggishness as the T68i? I recently
played with a T616 as well. It, too, is a bit sluggish, but noticeably
faster than the T68i.

So just how slow (or not) is the P800? Does it have enough horsepower for
advanced applications, like street navigation software?

Thanks for any comments.

Mike

I don't think the P800 is slow at all

the p800 has a relatively powerful processor, there is minimal if not
zero slowdown.

I have a P800 myself and it's not slow at all. And the advantage to have
both a PDA and a Cell Phone in the same box is very useful. As you said it
yourself, you always carry the phone, but the PDA often stays home and you
miss out to file appointments etc.

I've had my P800 for just over a week now I don't find it slow at all.

You did mention street navigation software. If you know of any please tell
me.

Ade.

Not slow at all. We have sold the P800 in my store for 3-4 months now
and I have had ZERO complaints on the device -- I use it too. It is,
IMHO, the best converged device on the market when you need a phone
first.

The P800 is plenty fast enough for any normal
human!

Anyone know where I can get more unusual ring
tones from?

Maybe we should start a Sony P800 newsgroup?
