Took me less than 15 min to get my t616 working on my laptop. Install
the software, turn on the IR port and worked no problem.

You don't mention what types of problems you had.

I used an R520 connected via IR to my laptop years ago when it first
came out, what two or three years back? No problemo. Even using
Micro$not Windoze 2K.

The T39m, from what I've been reading ere on this group was a buggy
phone to start with. I'd make sure the firmware is up to date on it and
whatever computer you're using with whatever OS you're using is up to
date as well.
