GPRS Icon on Sony Ericsson T610 on T-Mobile USA?

unlocked), firmware R1H002 but no hiss.
I also have no GPRS icon - not the "L" showing there's a network, or the
bars showing I can access it. This was a minor annoyance but with the
blackout here in New York, it became a much bigger deal as voice wasn't
working but data was, to a very limited extent. Is there any way to get
this to work? Anyone else having the same problem? I read other posts
saying Sony Ericsson is not (yet) doing firmware upgrades for the T610;
in any case these seem to be for things like camera contrast and I have
not seen GPRS as an issue. Help appreciated, thanks.
