HCB 30 Car Kit and old T39

Posted: 07-28-2003, 07:18 PM
I just fitted a HCB 30 car kit and I have a couple of questions. I
cant get to grips with the operation of the system, I assumed that
when the phone was in the car and the ignition is turned on, that the
phone would link up with the handsfree automatically. I've set all the
options to "Bluetooth On" " Voice Answer" after having recorded
"Answer" and "Busy". I have set and recorded a Magicword and I have
put voice tags on my most used numbers and I have put voice tags on
Mobile/Home/Work etc. The only way I can get it to work is if I press
the "Handset" Icon on the HCB 30 toggle switch, and which point it
makes the tone for me to say a voice tag name, which if I do, it finds
the name I am asking for, then it beeps again and I say "Home" for
example and the phone will ring the number and everything is working
just fine (Speaker, Microphone etc). To end the call I have to press
the "UnHandset" Icon on the HCB 30 toggle switch or the "No" button on
the phone, is this how it should be working? I have tried saying the
MagicWord, but that does not do anything.

I am making this more long winded than necessary, basically my
questions are, do I need to press any buttons when I get in the car in
the morning? do I need to press any buttons to make a call if I have a
MagicWord set-up? do I need to press any buttons to end a call?

After I typed all of the above I remembered that this T39 has a fairly
early version of the Firmware (I did go back 4 times for updating when
I first received the phone (I got one of the first lots of the
production line)). Could this be why I cannot get the Magicword to
work and for the Bluetooth not to appear to work properly.
If this is the case where do I stand with regard to getting it
updated, its a few years old now so out of the warranty, are they
going to make me pay for an upgrade to get these features working? I
got the phone from Carephone Warehouse who were brilliant at supplying
me with the updates originally (kept giving me a new phone).

I have a t39m (version r2s) and a HCB-30.

The way I understand it, it is the HCB-30 kit itself which does
not support the Magic word. E.g. The HCB-30 does not open a voice
channel to the phone until you press the button on the control panel.

And the only reason you are able to do even that,
e.g. start the whole operation by pressing the button on the
HCB-30 control panel, is because you have put the t39m into
Bluetooth ON mode. In Bluetooth Automatic mode you can't initiate
making calls from the HCB-30, you have to initate them from the
t39m. The downside of ON mode is that the t39 consumes
a lot more battery power in ON instead of Automatic.

The t39m has pretty basic bluetooth support.
It only supports the bluetooth headset profile.
It does not support the bluetooth handsfree profile.
It's also not possible to make the phone switch to a different
profile automatically when it is in range of the HCB-30
and has paired.

This does not seem to depend on the software version.
I saw very little difference between the r2s I have and
a friends r4a. The only difference I remember is that with
r4a I was able to disconnect a call by pressing the "no"
button on the HCB-30 control panel, whereas with r2s I have to
press "yes" again to hang up.
