There is no analog modem in the T68i, and a regular analog modem won't work
through the digital GSM codec, only AMPS.
It's a common misconception that GSM phones (like the T68i) have actual
modems. They don't -- they have virtual modems that connect to an IWU (Inter
Working Unit) located at a carrier's Mobile Switching Center (MSC). The IWU
has a modem bank that makes the actual dial-up modem calls. Since ATTWS
doesn't have IWUs (unlike other GSM carriers; e.g., Cingular), you can't make
dial-up connections.
