Fido Service - breaking a contract

Posted: 07-08-2003, 10:57 PM
I subscribed to Fido a year ago with my T200. At the time of my
subscription, they said my cell phone is locked for one year and will be
unlocked after one year of service. Now I phoned them to unlock my T200,
they refused saying that the existing contract has been cancelled, they do
not unlock my T200 because all subscribers have month to month contact
only. After having complained to them, no hope at all, my cell phone is
still locked. Would appreciate anyone can refer dealers (prefereable in
Toronto) to have my T200 unlocked .I will pay the service charge, I will
switch the service to AT&T

Well.. why unlock the phone in the first place? ATT would give you the phone
you want if you do enough talking with the people. If they know you looked
around and have other options they will give you most any phone.

I got my T68i for free from ATT, while they were still charging other new
subscibers because I explained to them straight out, If i dont get the phone
I want for free, or atleast a price match.. ill go with another service
provider.

When you subscribe to Fido at the first time, they locked you for onea year
of service, that means you cannot change provider because your cell p[hone
is locked. They promise after one year of service, they will unlock your
phone and you could go to any providsers you like. Now Fido broke their
promise cause is in financial crisis, CalNet (Sprint Canada) want to step in
I guess they want to lock customers as many as posible. The resuts of this
practice will drive all customers away to other providers. I saw the ads on
newspapers, Rogers and AT&T offer to Fido/Simpro existing Customers free
Cell Phone (Motorola T720 or Sony Ericson T306) with subscrition. I am
thinking of switching to AT&T.

Thats nice, go read the fine print.. im sure there is something in your
contract that lets them do what they are doing. Probibly there is a part
that says "We can change the contract with or without notice at any time"...
As for it driving people to other providers... thats bs, because pretty much
all providers lock there phones for the contract and wont unlock them later.
Wana know something? ATT will NOT unlock your phone after your contract is
up... So if your going to go with ATT, go get a contract, ask for a new
phone, and toss your locked one in the trash.

You are wrong.

There are exactly two ways that Fido will unlock your phone.

#1 - You pay them.

#2 - You move out of the country and can prove that your new permanent
address is not in Canada. They'll contact your new GSM cell phone
service provider and give them the unlock code for your phone.

Any other "claims" made by the customer service reps is 100% false.
If you don't have it in writing, you don't have a leg to stand on.

Just go find a little asian store somewhere that deals in cell phone
stuff, they'll probly unlock your phone for $20-30 and save you the
hassle.
