Using two bluetooth devices at once

Posted: 06-24-2003, 11:08 PM
Hi,

I have an Ericsson T39m, an HBH-15 headset, and a Mac with bluetooth.
I have found that if I have an active RFCOMM serial link to the phone
- the ability to type AT commands, etc. - then the headset is not
usable.

Obviously, I find this to be unfortunate; one of the things I was
hoping about Bluetooth is that it would reduce the "your small gadget
only has one plug" problems. I have been told that the T68i does the
same thing.

DOes anybody know if other Ericsson/Sony Ericsson phones do the same
thing? I would really love to use my computer and/or handheld to dial
a call while using my headset.

Thanks,

gopi.

Is it possible to keep the connection open and do that, or does it
need to close? My goal would be to basically not use the phone UI at
all, so ongoing call management, etc. would be important...

Unfortunatly no, I think it's in the Bluetooth specs that only one
connection at a time is allowed.

You made my heart skip a beat there...I can't imagine the bluetooth
designers would be that dumb. I'd have to join the slashdot "bluetooth
is dead, wavelan is going to win" crowd or something

I did a bit of googling:
http://www.socketforum.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1247

It seems that some chipsets can only do one connection at a time, and
that some protocol stacks are similarly limited. It's presumably
difficult in some way to do multipoint, but it's possible. As I
mentioned previously, multi-point is one of the features I consider
essential. My belt is full of gadgets; they must all speak to each
other
