In the computer business, in days of yore when IBM ruled the roost, they
used to announce stuff ages before it was available. The reason behind
this approach was to make anyone thinking about ordering a competitor's
product put off a decision until that bigger/better/faster/cheaper
offering from Big Blue was available. We called it vapourware. I guess
there's something similar behind SE's approach.
