Nokia to Sony-Ericsson

Posted: 10-31-2005, 10:33 PM
I have just bought a K750i to replace my Nokia 6310i. But when I stick
the SIM in - it can't finds any addresses. Is there some trick to
converting the contacts list from Nokia to SonyE? Greetings from
Holland

Odds are either 1) that all of your phone list entries are in the
phone, not the SIM. YOu can command your Nokia to copy them into the
SIM.
or 2). Many Sony-Ericssons don't like using the phone director in the
SIM, and require you to copy them into the phone before you can use
them.

It almost certainly one of those two.

It was indeed 1) (that all of your phone list entries are in the phone,
not the SIM. You can command your Nokia to copy them into the SIM.)

However the Nokia indicated that it couldn't copy all the numbers to
the SIM... infact 102 didn't get copied
I now have half my numbers on the SIm and in the SonyE, but how do I
get the other half?

Why not use a PC to synchronize the data?
Nokia -> PC -> SE 750

As far as I recall there are limits to the length of the names in the
phonebook on the SIM card (8 or 10 characters?). The names can be longer in
the phone memory. Copying the phone book to the SIM will probably cause
truncation of some of the entries.

Best regards

I have been trying that, but for some reason Bluetooth doesn't want to
communicate with my Nokia any more...
can I use it very often anyways at a bit confusing.

Copy the entries from the Nokia to the SIM, do not "keep original entry"
Put SIM in Ericsson and copy from SIM to phone, again not keeping the
original.
Repeat until you get them all.
You may have to do some manual erasing of the SIM after each time you copy
to the Ericsson, I can't remember.

hmm. yes well..

you had better warm your thumbs up for a serious excercise session...

you want to beam by infra red each individual contact over as a business
card.

this copies everything over, and not just the one phone nuer, and forgets
your access

I managed to convert my Nokia 6310i address book to my new SE v600i in
minutes using sync software supplied with both phones...

I had 150+ contacts in the old phone, all in the phone memory, most contacts
having more than one number.

I was about to start the laborious process as described below, then thought
I'd give the computer a go...

I sync'd the Nokia phone to MS Outlook 2003 (using a new contacts folder, so
as not to confuse the phone with the probably out of date stuff on the
computer), with Nokia's Data Suite, and an Infra Red connection to my
laptop. I then sync'd Outlook to the new SE phone, using the SE sync
software supplied with the phone, and again the Infra red connection.

To my enormous surprise, all my contacts came accross perfectly, with all
the correct multiple numbers stored correctly under their names, with the
correct symbols (where they correspond).

Saved myself hours. Hope this helps someone else, although probably too
late for the original poster, sorry!
