Z600 connection to a laptop

laptop recognises the cable and "see's" it in comm port 5. However the
laptop cannot detect the phone. Does anyone have any ideas ? Do I have
to update the phones firmware, or do I have to download a new driver ?
I have visited the sony ericsson and tech.prolific.com.tv websites,
and according to everything I have read, it would seem that I have
done everything correct. Help please
