P800/Tungsten T/Bluetooth - anyone got it working?

The P800 does not support the standard modem commands (AT+CMGx) to send an
SMS.
This means that what you are trying to do is not possible.

People above say that's due to drivers, but it doesn't hurt to check one
small thing. Which format are your numbers in? My setup is T|T +6310i, and
the tungsten would send SMS to +44 (international format) numbers just
fine, but would produce some sort of nonsensical error message if I tried
to send them to 07xxx numbers...

Good suggestion. Turns out I'm already using the "+44" format.. I've used
the Tungsten happily with my 6310i to send SMSs, dial numbers etc. and I'm
astonished I can't do the same with the P800 (from Ericsson, the originators
of Bluetooth after all)..

The P800 does allow making and answering data calls. But its modem doesn't
even support fax calls.
This (and the fact that it doesn't support sending SMS via it's modem
interface) is my only
dissapointment with the P800. I am curious if the P900 is any better, I
might switch.

My previous phone was a T39 and is supported all of the above...

I've gone back to my old 6310i, as I find it very convenient to send SMSs
from the Tungsten and to dial numbers from its phone book. What a
disappointment that a device that's a couple of years newer than the 6310i
takes a step back in Bluetooth functionality. I think I'll look at the Nokia
6600.

Are you sure that your problems are not related to the fact that there is
no driver for the P800 available for Palm Handhelds?
It is annoying that Palm's drivers lag the introduction of new phones so
much.

I am pretty sure.... I develop PC software that uses GSMs to send SMS
message.
I know how this is supposed to work...

If you want to know what features a GSM modem has:

Connect to the device using a terminal program (My Win2000 pc has a program
called hyper terminal)
Type:

AT, you should get OK, signalling that you are connected to a modem. Then
try AT+GCAP.
You get a response outlining (at a very high level) what the device can do.
- If you see +FCLASS chances are you GSM supports sending/receiving faxes.
To be sure you'd
have to type AT+FCLASS=? to see which modes it supports: 0 means plain data
calls, 1 and 2 indicate fax modes.
- If you see +CGSM, chances are that you can use it to send SMS messages.
With the P800 I checked beyond that, it just doesn't support any of the
commands needed
to send SMS messages.

Some PC programs allow you to send SMS messages using the P800, but they
require some
'server' software installed on the P800 itself. I don't think thay have a
version for the Palm OS.
