The details probably depends a great deal on what kind of BT dongle you
have.
I have a Belkin F8T001 and simply installed (on a win2k system) the drivers
and software provided with the dongle on a CD.
As a result both a BT network connection and a BT modem was created. Both
could be configured like standard NIC's and modems under windows.
The only non-obvious thing I had to do is to enter the following string as
the phone number to be dialed by the BT modem: *99***1#
and further leave username and password blank.
It works like a dream.
I haven't been able to make the connection work on my other notebook running
SuSE Linux 9.0 yet. On this notebook I use the serial cable. Works ok too.

SO what is this number : *99***1# ... an example..or where does this connect
to ?
Would I use that same number...or would that only be relevant to your server
( phone company ).
And what about the laptop ( or PC ) what do i need to do to point that to
the mobile ?

*99***1# tells the phone to initiate a GPRS session using the data account
on the phone that has a context identity (CID) of 1. You use this on a phone
(such as a Sony Ericsson) that can have multiple CIDs defined. If you were
using a Nokia, which only supports a single CID at any one time, you would
set the dial string to *99# instead.

o.k. .. my SE T610 has already been set up to get online ... so would i need
to enter this string again..like *99***2# ?
But at any rate.... how would I then get my laptop to know to connect to the
internet via the phone ?

it's just a ppp dialup session, like you were using a modem.

o.k....I don't mean to sound dim here...but it's all a bit out of my league
really...
What is a "PPP dial-up session" ?
Like do I set up a "dial up" on my laptop ... but not sure what settings I'd
put in there...usually it would be the ISP...their number..their settings
etc ... but if this is going to connect via my mobile ... then I'm not sure
what settings I should enter ... this *99***1# is to go in the mobile phone
right ?

Use *99***1# as the phonenumber. Leave username and password blank. You are
being IDéd by your phone number. Under Windows just use the standard
settings (automatic IP and DNS from provider)

Have a look in our Bluetooth Guides - you'll find step-by-step instructions
for this there.
