SE customer support/suggestions?

(a) the awful screen saver/clock thing. After a very short
time the screen fades to a moving clock, then fades to almost
black. There's no point in having the clock as you can't see
it (and I have a watch, something they obviously don't have
in SonyEricsson land!), and it also means that if you want
to check to see if you have texts or missed calls, you need
to unlock the keypad and re-show the desktop. It's something
they should have made configurable - I'd happily sacrifice a
days standby for a display that always shows me the desktop,
even if it's not backlit.

(b) the joystick is hopelessly underused. From the main
screen, I can joystick down to my phonebook, right to the
main menu, left to my first shortcut and up to WAP. I don't
use WAP, so one wasted function. Joystick right to the main
menu duplicates a press of the joystick to the main menu....
why? The only action that is user-definable is joystick left
.....why not all four directions?

(c) the camera is next to useless, but then I thought it
would be and didn't base my purchase on the camera.

(d) there button on the site takes you to....WAP again. Be
nice if it could be set to something else.

(e) signal reception isn't great....my Moto T720 shows
service in my home office when the T610 only shows it 50%
of the time.

(f) silly little things like not being able to browse the
phone book, and send a text direct to an entry. You have to
back out, go to the text menu, compose the text, then select
who to send it to!

I do like the design, the feel of it, etc and in call it's good,
but there are too many useability problems for me to recommend it
to anyone.

The clock can be viewed again simply by pressing one of the volume buttons.
It lights up the backlight so the clock can be seen. All other keys take you
back to standby screen instead. Also you can tell if you have a new text
message or missed call without unlocking the keypad.

Also agree here, but likewise, didn't buy it for the camera and wish it
wasn't even there.

The signal meter on the T616 way underestimates the actual RF. I have been
able to place and hold calls with my T616 when many people I know couldn't
in a remote area near my lake house on the same service provider. Among the
phones I have been able to compare with at this location are Samsung S307,
Moto T720, Samsung x427, and a few Nokias of which I am not sure of the
model numbers (except my crappy old 3390). My SE is heads and tails etter RF
than any of these phones with the firmware I have in it, even though the
signal meter shows lesser signal.

Never had a problem sending a text message through the phone book by
pressing more, then send text message. Has worked for me everytime without
having to back out.

I won't recommend this phone over a V500 or a T300 since I have had no
experience with either, but the only real complaints I have are the joystick
only having one customizable direction (very minor annoyance), and I too
wish there was a way to keep the standby screen active if desired, but that
doesn't even bother me too terribly much since I can still see missed calls,
etc with the press of a single button.

The same as on virtually every other colour handset and designed to prolong
battery life, but I will admit that it's more difficult than some to see.

No you don't. A keypress will bring the backlight to half brightness and
turn the clock off enabling you to see the standby screen.

You'd be sacrificing considerably more than a days battery life by having
the screen fully active (and possibly lit).

Couldn't agree more, the joystick should be more configurable.

Not seen a phone on a camera that's any good anyway. At the end of the day,
cameras on phones are at the moment, at best, gimmicks - if you want a
camera, buy a camera (or possibly a camera with phone functionality ;-))

As it's designed to. But as you say, with the joystick configuration as it
is, personally I'd prefer the button to launch WAP and be able to configure
the joystick for other functions.

The T610 (as with most /// or SE products) is a little more honest over
signal strength than from some other manufacturers. Many is the time I've
gone to make a call on one of my Nokias which proclaim to have near full
signal strength only to not be able to place the call, have it break up mid
call or drop the call completely. If your handset is significantly worse in
actual useage than any other phone it needs to be checked as in all
likelihood, it is faulty.

I see your point, but if everyone were to do things your way, would there be
any need for an SMS menu at all? It's just a different way of doing
things - you either like it straight away, learn to use it, or give up and
decide that the system is wrong.

Quite frankly I would have thought that in-call performance was by far the
most important factor, plus as you rightly point out, it's a sturdily built
phone, unlike many of the newer plastic Nokias. For build quality, only the
metal bodied Samsungs come close in the mainstream market. As for
useability, I'd have to disagree with you. As I said before, it's a
different way of doing things, neither right or wrong, but different.
