dual sim t610

Posted: 01-18-2004, 12:21 PM
Hi,

Could anyone recommend a dual sim attachment for the t610 or if there is one
available for it?

If anyone has had any experience with ti nkering with these things be happy
to hear how it went.

At to moment I'm switching between 2 sims and its a bit annoying opening and
closing and swapping sims when I need to. From the look of it, might be a
tight fit but if it goes then great :-)

Cheers

I got a ghost SIM holder from <http://www.solware.co.uk/ghost_sim.shtml>
but it's very tight. You have to get it in exactly the right position
otherwise the back cover won't fit on correctly and even when it does
lock in place, there's a distinct bulge. If I didn't have it inside a
case, I'd be worried about the back cover coming off at some point.

I tried it both underneath and on top of the battery and I think
underneath worked best (I've removed it at present).

I initially had a problem where it recognised only one SIM. I bent the
contacts slightly on the other and it worked fine after that.

Overall, I'd say it was OK, if you are aware of the limitations.

Thanks for the post\link and info.

Just had a look, looks like its what I'm after. Any main downsides? was
switching between to two hassle free after it was installed?

What are the limitations of using a ghost sim?

I did a seach on ebay and found this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...category=42 4
23
It talks about trimming the sim card (obviously have to be very careful) not
sure how good this idea is. Just thought I'd mention it as I was searching
for them.

Cheers

Yes, once I had got both SIM cards working, powering off and on switched
between them as advertised.

Only as I originally said, that it adds the extra thickness that makes
it very tricky to get the back cover on again.

This design might make things a touch slimmer as there is no ribbon
cable. Remember, with both there is the original SIM thickness plus a
holder, there's no other way around it. I'd be wary about cutting my
SIMs though.

Cheers Chris,

Yeah I don't like the idea of trimming my sims.

I'm going to go with the one you suggested.

Thanks :-)

Can you not remove the sticky pad on the reverse of the battery cover?

This is fitted to ensure a tight fit - so removing it should give you some
more space

Before you do that, I've just had a play with it as it's been sat in the
drawer for a while.

If you wrap the ribbon cable round the side of the battery so that the
dual SIM holder is on top of the battery, it is nigh on impossible to
get the back cover on again. It would be better if the ribbon cable was
longer so you could position it towards the top of the battery, i.e.
where the foam pad as mentioned by Hays is.

You can get a much neater fit with the holder underneath the battery.
However, with the 2 pegs in place at the bottom end, the battery flexes
slightly as you press it down flat to make contact with the terminals at
the top. When you slide the cover on (which is relatively easy), it
holds it in position but because it's not a 100% fit, there's a chance
the cover could move slightly and the battery connection will be lost
and the phone switches off.

I'd say that if you have some kind of case/holder, it will be OK; I
certainly didn't experience any problem when I did use it as the phone
was in a Krusell case.

I hope this makes sense. It does work but just be aware of the potential
problems.

Yeah, I sell those things. You have to cut the main chip from two seperate
sims and reinstall both chips into a new sim card. I have like 9000 pcs in
stock and don't even attempt to sell them. Who wants to cut up their sim
card?!?

Hi there Chris,

It came yesterday and I was tinkering about with it last night, somewhat
fiddly but managed to get it in and managed to close it ok, I see what you
mean in your posts, I think it was a case of doing it to understand it.

It's definitely a tight fit, but as I've got a case it should be fine no
problems so far. Hopefully with the support of the case the back cover clips
shouldn't come under too much pressure, I was worried that it might ping up
and break but in the case it takes the stress of it.

All working nicely cant complain haven't had any problems at all today with
it, only thing that comes to mind is it overheating under the battery, do
you think it could cause any damage to the sims while charging ?

cheers :-)

I wouldn't like to say, but there's not a lot of room there normally!
