Gosh, Z600 suck in terms of size!

Posted: 01-03-2004, 12:31 PM
Finally laid my hand on a Z600 here after much anticipation for the
return of a flip phone to S/E line up...

Gosh, it's so big compared with T610 and other flips from Korean brands!

I was so disappointed by the physical dimension of the unit. Given the
choice, I would grudgingly take the T610.

So what was SE thinking in designing this Z600?!?

I've had my Z600 for 2 weeks now and I love the size.

I've read posts about it being "a hamburger" and so forth, but it's a
realistic size.

I love the decent button sizes (and reasonable space between buttons -
certainly no fear of miss-hitting).

And when closed, it sits comfortably in my pocket. I guess the key issue
apart from size is weight, and I don't think anyone can criticize it's
weight - it's so light, that even at it's size, you bearly feel it.

And for me, it seems really sturdy and firm. Very confident closing sound
and feel, and I've played with some flimsy flip phones in my time - this one
tops the list.

But everyone has their own criteria, and I just wanted to offer my opinion.

Cheers,
Pete

I would like to jump on your wagon, agreeing with all the points that you
mentioned about the Z600. I've had mine for some 6-8 weeks now and it's
perfect. Ofcourse a somewhat thinner version would suit me even better, the
size is ok as it is.

You've hit the nail on the head with those two paragraphs. It's a
comfortable size for use, can be slipped into an otherwise empty pocket
with little risk of damage (unlike various 'smartphones' with their
vulnerable screens) but, more importantly, it FEELS strong enough to be
slipped into a pocket without risk of damage. A perfect balance between
function and strength.

I love my Z600 for all of the above reasons. And from a self-confessed
SF geek, the fact that it looks like something Captain Archer might pull
out of his bag doesn't hurt either

Interesting how you guys all came to the defence of Z600. Maybe I
should take another closer look at the model next time I am in town.

I personally would love to have the size of the Z300 (?) instead. Now
only if that phone had Bluetooth...

I think it's because it is the first 3 LCD/screen flip from S/E and they
are still working on making future models smaller.

At first glance I think it looks big too, but out of my friends who have
them, none complain about the size and make similar remarks to the ones
already listed.

That should be *2* screen

I do think that future flips from S/E will be smaller. The Z600 from
what I understand is pretty much a repackaged T610/30. Once they see
demand for flips then more Research and Development will be made to make
them smaller.

I'm still waiting for a T39m successor.
Z600 is close to play this role, but indeed, in terms of size and weight it
is one step back.
Size and weight is much more important for me than the camera and mms toys.

The way Volvos were designed some years ago, that's what! Or maybe a brick.

Apart from that, and the fact it doesn't come with a VGA camera, the Z600
seems to be a great phone.

Hahaha, LOL! Too bad the default color is red and silver, and not that
patented Star Trek grey...

Still, I don't think it's really clumsy, a phone that is too small is still
more awkward and difficult to use than one that is a bit bigger than one
might wish, especially if the screen or keypad's been shrunk too much.
