Converting Backup Files (nfb) to Transfer Files (nfc)

I have been advised that backups of phone data can only be restored to the
same model of phone (nfb files).

I have the need to move backed up data to a different phone model.

The original phone from which I backed up has "died" and as such I cannot
create a Transfer file (nfc) to take the data across to my new one.

Has anyone any suggestions on how I can do this?
