Nokia E-Mail Configuration Tool - Settings for Orange Networks

Posted: 01-30-2006, 10:57 PM
Hi,

I have a Nokia 6230i on the Orange network. I also have my own domain
name, which forwards email to my BT Internet email account. I used the
Nokia E-Mail Configuration Tool to configure these settings. It can be
downloaded free, from this address:

http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,75924,00.html

I have configured the settings manually before, but this is by far the
easiest method I've found so far.

Here are the settings you'll need in order to send/receive POP3 email
through your Nokia 6230i, via the Orange GPRS network. I'm sure
they'll also work for the other Nokia phones supported by this
software:

General tab
-----------
Mailbox Name:
Whatever you wish to call the mailbox - this is the name that will be
given to this configuration set once sent to the phone.

E-mail address:
Your email address, e.g., joe.bloggs@btinternet.com

Outgoing (SMTP) server:
smptp.orange.net

Incoming server type:
POP3

Incoming server:
The name of your POP3 server, e.g., pop3.btconnect.com.

User name:
The user name required to access your POP3 account.

Password:
The password required to access your POP3 account.

Advanced tab
------------
Use SMTP authorisation:
No

Outgoing (SMTP) port:
25

Incoming (POP3) port:
110 (unless your POP3 server has a different port)

Reply-to address:
Can usually be left blank, but I enter my email address here, as I have
email forwarding configured, via my domain name.

Retrieve emails:
The maximum number of emails you wish to be retrieved - maximum value
of 50.

Secure login:
No

Incoming & Outgoing tabs
------------------------
Proxies:
Yes

Primary proxy:
:8080
(yes, there should be a colon before 8080)

Primary proxy port:
8080

Data bearer:
GPRS

Access point:
orangeinternet

Authentication type:
Normal

User Name:
Automatic

Password:
Orange

---

Once you have entered these details, save the settings, then enter your
mobile phone number in the "To phone number(s)" field, and send to your
phone. Follow the instructions on screen.

WARNING: Passwords entered into the software are saved as plain text in
your saved file! You may wish to edit this file, once the settings
have been saved, to remove the password.

Provided your GPRS is correctly configured, you should now be able to
send and receive email via your mobile phone.
