formating an MMC card

Posted: 11-05-2005, 01:40 PM
OK I have bought my self a 2 G MMC card for my phone that worked fine until
I transferred to much data to it.

I got an error message saying card full and instead of clicking it to say OK
I clicked to cancel the transfer thus messing up the card.

The phone offers me the option to format the card but then says something
about removing all the files and aborts the format.

I have had the card in a reader connected via USB to my PC and the PC can
not see the card. I have tested the reader with another card and it works
fine.

I have tried to format from the DOS prompt but still nothing.

PC suite does not see the card either.

ANYONE PLEASE HELP !!!

THANKS
RICK

Unfortunately, that's a very very common problem with MMC cards, and
manufacturers refuse to believe that is a serious problem.. I myself have
gone thru that situation (adding/deleting mass files to/from MMC card, only
to get an error) at least 9 times, (just looking at my collection of mmc
card that now dont work for me anymore). I have contacted the retailers
where I had bought them, they pass me off to the manufacturers website, who
are no help what so ever. (Kingston, & Legend & EagleTec). Search many
mobile forums, the're are heaps of people with this problem.
So, your is damaged.
Reading a PC Mag from Australia, I see it's benchmark "finding the best SD
MMC etc cards" testing mentions a warning of " transferring & removing large
amounts of data (Photo's, Doc's, Mp3's etc) could result in causing flash
memory chip to critically overheat in a matter of seconds. Mag: "PC
Authority Australia"

I can vouch for them too. That's where I bought my 512 DV RS MMC card from.
Absolutely no problems with it (touch wood).
