Hello,
I'd like to find the best method of text-based communication between my
european Nokia 5140i and my friend's Japanese mobile (which is in Japan).
SMS would be great, as it's cheap, but I've tried to send SMS's to my
friend's Japanese mobile, without luck. I've since heard that they can't
send/receive SMS's at all in Japan. Is this true?
To get around this, I've been using the email application in my 5140i to
communicate (in english) with my friend in japan. Though this works,
punctuation characters only show up as empty boxes in the text - annoying.
Sure I can live with this, but I'm currently learning Japanese, and would
also like to be able to see Japanese characters in emails received by my
phone.
After doing some poking around in the email program, I can see that it has 2
character sets installed - Unicode (UTF-8), and ISO-8859-1. Is it possible
to install a Japanese character set in the email program in my phone? I
don't need to be able to write emails in Japanese, just read them.
Cheers,
Jamie
