Playlists work great? For the MMC card? I don't know. Yes, they work,
if you know the magic trick.
But that magic trick is clumsy and tedious.
First, copy the MP3s through the card reader. Put the MMC back in the
phone. Connect the phone to the PC suite. Create empty playlists.
Finally add the desired tunes to the playlists.
For somebody who wants to frequently load a few hundred megabytes of
MP3s to his MP3 player, this is pretty unacceptable.
Firmware 5.24 has been enhanced to recognize all MP3s on the MMC
automatically. That's a big improvement.
Not that it's perfect, far from it. If you have, say, 100 MP3 files on
your phone, you get one giant flat playlist without a notion of
directories (albums). If you want to skip to the 7th album, you may
find yourself hitting the skip button 70 times.
Considering ergonomic aspects, the 6230 is a lousy MP3 player, even with
firmware 5.24.

i don't have any magic tricks and it works very easily.

i don't do any of this. I simply connect the phone to the pc via
cable, load up Nokia Audio Manager, create a folder on the mmc card,
create a playlist and drag in the fiiles i want on my pc. then simply
transfer to the phone/mmc. i have currently got a folder of various
music, and several more seperate folders which are albums. i have a
playlist for each and it works a treat.

i've got roughly 400meg of music on my 512mb mmc, this should last me
a while. changing it is easy.

I'd agree with the OP. I've had a 6230 since release day in Europe
and love it.
However, even though the audio quality is very good and you can use
MMCs up to 1 gig (making it better than most solid state players) the
actual _ergonomics_ of mp3 playback are awful.
It's a real waste of great hardware. Nokia should pull their
finger out and make a more ergonomic mp3 player on the phone. It
should be easy to select and play individual mp3s and playlists. A
good random facility is needed and directory skip functions.
