HDW-2 Lost PIN

Posted: 12-13-2004, 02:19 PM
I've lost the note I made of the PIN for my HDW-2 and need to get a
replacement pin to get it to work with my PC. I've tried calling the Nokia
helpline and they just hang up rather than take a call, and I've emailed
their customer service department - who haven't replied. I've searched the
groups via google and see that others have had the same problem - but
apparently with no answer. Can anyone tell me how to find the pin? If it
helps, it is still paired to my Nokia 6310i, can I read the PIN from that,
somehow?

Many thanks, David

It's printed on a label underneath the battery..!

Ivor,

>> It's printed on a label underneath the battery..!<<>

I've tried that and can't get it to pair. There are quite a few numbers
under the battery...I'll take the risk that the Mafia aren't going to
descend on me to steal my earpiece, and publish them here in the hope that
you or someone might recognise the appropriate code!

C3BA2E
4587
KK46
NFC: 12056
NPC: 0694113

That's reading from top to bottom off a silver label. There is a strange
pattern on the top left corner of the label that looks like some sort of
cipher. The only other letters on the label are 'CP'

I've tried pairing with them all and no luck. Any idea how long the code
should be and whether it is alpha or numeric?

It's really odd that they should have designed the product like this -
normally I leave codes in the default condition and don't have this
nonsense!

Thanks for your help, David

It's a 4 digit number, so I'd guess it's 4587 from the numbers you quote.
If it isn't that, I don't know. The code is also printed on a card that
comes with the headset, it's usually sellotaped to the front of the
manual. No sign of that, I suppose..?!

No, I bought it a couple of weeks before we moved house and it might be in
store, or it might have been thrown out. There must be some way to get this
code but Nokia don't reply to emails sent via their website to their
customer support address.

Thanks again, David

I'm assuming you've tried 0000?

There are 2 types of HDW-2, the first one had the PIN (which was random)
printed on the label that sealed the instruction manual, the recent
version's PIN is 0000.

Hope this helps.

The number is printed on a sticky label under the cover where the battery
is.

Well that *is* secure, isn't it..?!! What's the point in having a PIN at
all if it's set to 0000 with no way of changing it..? My CK-1W car kit is
the same.

I'm not sure that security is any big deal. If thieves steal the device it
is as likely as not that it will not have influenced the theft and you'd
have lost it anyway. Except, maybe, in an office environment where you'd
have to carry it around with you or lock it in a brief case?
