6820 - High Quality

Posted: 12-02-2004, 03:24 PM
Dear friends,

I plan to buy a new mobile phone and I am very interested in the Nokia
6820. Though there are many tests available in the www, I am sure it's
better to know the experience of people who use this phone day by day.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks a lot
Stephan

Hi Stephan-

I've had a 6820 since late September, used with ATT in the U.S. I like
the phone quite a bit. I did have some trouble with my first one,
getting "SIM Card Registration Failure" messages on a random basis.
Eventually swapped out phone and SIM card and all seems well. If you
search back in this group over the last month or two you will see some
messages between myself and someone named Rick where we discussed the
phone.

In summary, it works very well as a phone. If you want a good camera,
look elsewhere. I've had some issues with my bluetooth headset
connection (Jabra BT 250), due to issues with how the phone re-acquires
the bluetooth device after a disconnect, but I've managed to get around
this pretty well.

The keyboard works well; I can type with it no problem for texting
purposes.

The phone is solidly built; it doesn't have the creaky feel that some
other phones have.

Hi Marc,

sounds good. Thanks a lot. The camera is not that important. I am more
interested in the keyboard.

Best and have a nice weekend.

For the keyboard you may want to look at the 6800 if it is available in your
area.
It does not have the camera or bluetooth, but the other functions are
similar.
The main advantage is that it is bigger than the 6820 and I find the
keyboard more usuable. I tried the 6820 (only briefly in a shop) and found
it was too easy to hit 2 keys together; OK, maybe I have fat fingers.

I do a lot of SMS and it it the best phone I have used for that (except the
much bigger and more expensive Nokia Communicator). The keyboard works
really well.
It is OK for sending short emails too. Receiving emails is limited: maximum
of the first 50 emails in you POP server wil be downloaded; long messages
sometimes cannot be read at all; HTML format is sometimes handled OK,
sometimes not. I think the 6820 has the same email program.

You may want to look at the 6800 as well if it is available in Germany.
The phone is a bit larger and I find the keyboard easier to use than the
6820.
I use it more for SMS and short emails than voice and do not like to use a
normal phone now.
the 6800 also may be cheap now as it is now an "old" model.
It does not have a camera or Bluetooth but does have an FM radio which I
find useful sometimes.
The software seems similar or the same of both phones.
The email system has limitations, and I find it mainly useful for sending
short emails, not receiving.
