6230 oddities - bluetooth, 15 digit passcode for SMS

I have recently acquired a 6230 (had a 6310i before) and I'm encountering
some funnies and I am not having much luck in sorting them out.
First issue is bluetooth connectivity. When using the 6230 as a modem - with
an XP Pro laptop or with my Sony Clie PDA - the phone doesn't seem to be
able to maintain the connection for more than about 5 minutes. It then goes
into a cycle of dropping and remaking the connection 2 or 3 times before
the dropping the link and then refusing to do anything without a powercycle.
Something peculiar often happens also with the GPRS connection where the
bluetooth link PC>phone seems good but there's no traffic across the GPRS
connection.
Is this a known problem with this kit? Is there a solution. I tried asking
Vodafone but I am still in the "you're obviously an idiot - try these
configuration settings" stage with their Customer Aggravation people.
Second point - I also want to use the Clie to compose SMS messages to send
via the 6230. This is straightforward and I have done it with the 6310i.
However, when the Clie links with the 6230 the phone asks for passcode. When
I put one in (and I've tried the bluetooth code, security and PIN codes) it
say "enter 16 digit code". There is no reference to this in either manual.
This may be a Clie problem because I do not get the same prompt when I do
the same thing from my PC (using either PC Suite or Oxygen's Phone Manager).
Anybody got any clues on either of these points? Thanks, if you have.
