Sharp GX30 Users - Would you buy it again?

Posted: 07-14-2004, 06:13 PM
My wife's looking at upgrading her phone and wanted a phone with...
- Good standby
- A decent camera, which allows a callers photo to pop on the screen when
they ring
- clam-shell form
- bluetooth
- triband
- good battery life
- MP3 ringtones

The GX30 appears to meet most of the criteria (website doesn't state battery
life or whether MP3s can be used as ringtones). I was wondering if anyone
out there has first hand experience and how they'd rate it. The good and
the bad.

Thanks,

Gus

I found screen and camera nice, battery life way below advertised but still
decent. Nice size and weight and felt nice in the hand. That said - not sure
how tought it was though and I send mine back as some of the other bits were
very disappointing.

These were not bits you mentioned so it may suit your wife perfectly - but I
found the Operating System VERY weak compared to the Nokia 6 series (ie.
3650 6600 etc). It won't multitask for example (1 app working at once only),
loads of times I tried to do something simple like put a picture in a
folder - to find there did not seem to be such a concept (unless I didn't
find it). In the UK Vodafone had completely buggered the thing up by making
it a 'walled garden' - ie. you couldn't use any 3rd party apps to connect to
internet - i.e opera browser etc. They force to you use vodafones tools (at
a cost). Synching with a PC didn't sych calendar etc, only contacts (and
then it was flakey to say the least compared to Nokia PC suite).

Its a shame about the Operating limitations as the hardware was very very
nice. If you don't need any advanced functions and money is not a problem I
would say it is a nice posey phone with good basic functions and a nice
camera.
