the radio i have to use my left hand to use the buttons. The connection
sticks out to the right. what was the point of this?

A. To avoid blocking the power socket, which is to the left of the pop-
port. It's not perfect, as the plug can be bent and/or disengaged when in
a pocket.

[nothing wrong with left-handers! ;-)]

You're right - it is intended so the power socket remains clear. I first
came across the pop port when I got my previous phone 18 mo's agoand
thought it was so badly designed it would become evident to Nokia and they'd
either dump it or improve it -- sure enough, within a week, one of the side
tabs broke with not very strenuous use and the connecter's are diabolically
fiddly to clip in.
I've just upgraded my phone last week...and the dreaded pop port is still
there with nary an improvement in sight.
Too bad!
