3560 & AT&T= crappy analog reception??

Posted: 04-22-2004, 11:38 PM
I live near Las Vegas, NV and have AT&T service, which is supposed to pick
up both analog and digital as required. Most of my cell phone use is while
hiking in outlying mountains, usually with sight of Vegas or a nearby
suburban area, almost always within AT&T's coverage map.

I "upgraded" from a Motorola StarTac to a Nokia 3560 last summer. I hike
with friends who have the exact same AT&T service plan, but have older Nokia
phone (a year older).

I Rarely can get a connection on mountaintops, by my friends are almost
always able to get a connection -- with older Nokia phones, and the same
service plan. Typically, my phone shows full strength signal (4 bars),
while theirs show only 2 bars. Theirs ring and connect to the called
number; if I call the same number, I get a rapid busy signal and no
connection.

I've been back to the local AT&T store; they couldn't offer help. I've
called AT&T several times; they charged me $25 to send a "new" (actually
used) phone, same model, which has the exact same problem.

Any ideas? Is there a better newsgroup to post this problem?

I can't say I share your experience with the 3560, however, I just upgraded
to a 6560, and while it may be subjective, I think it gets better reception
than the 3560. The volume is also louder, which I like. I think, again this
is just subjective, that both the 3560 and 6560 get better reception than
other AT&T TDMA phones, specifically, the Motorola V60.
