Nokia 6600 and Bluetooth Sync

Posted: 11-21-2003, 10:34 AM
Hi Everybody!

nokia 6600 bluetooth sync solution

Having bougth the new nokia 6600, I was only very disppointed to find
out that syncing with Outlook is a major problem.
Since the 6600 cannot use a cable, you must use either infrared or
bluetooth. So off I go and buy a bluetooth usb dongle (allnet all
1575).
Well, having installed the bluetooth, it finds the phone, they are
paired etc.
However the 6600 keeps shutting down the communication between pc and
phone.
The Nokia pc suite cannot acknowledge any bluetooth - I call Nokia,
ring, ring, and the support guy says (with a smile) I must use the
nokia bluetooth pcmcia card, or they will not guarantee it will work.
Well, apart from the price, a pcmcia card is not really what I want on
my stationary pc, as you can imagine. Shame on you NOKIA, for putting
out such a lousy interface to a pricy phone, of course the pc suite
should reckognize any common bluetooth dongle/device, or it should be
clearly stated

So here's how to make it work. Since the bluetooth dongle sets up a
serial connection, I went to create another virtual com port within
the usb dongle software (because the pc suite kept stating the
relevant com port was in use by another device) Then I went ot the
connection manager (m-router) and clicked all the options except
infrared (also the serial connections)

Upon starting the pc manager you can choose connect and after a while
it worked. So now I am syncing, with my usb device, through a virtual
com port, that pc suite knows as a serial port. Confused???

Honestly, Nokia, get your acto together, its not all lifestyle, how
about a tint bit of good old functionality?

I hope this can help other 6600 owners who want to synchronise

All the best

Ole, Denmark (close enough to Finland for the time being)

I haven't got a 6600 yet, but I must say I *like* your innovative
workaround.
Maybe someone from Nokia will read it.

Can you help?

I have a TDK dongle, Connection Manager reports that the "Media Type is not
supported", mRouter only displays an IrDA port, no choice of "serial" ports,
even though I've installed the TDK software and have successfully paired the
devices. Cannot find a way of assigning a serial port to the 6600, so have
not got as far as you. Any ideas? Running XP Pro SP1. TIA.

Hi

Well, my connection manager has 3 buttons: serial, infraed and
bluetooth. What I did was I clicked the m-router icon and selceted all
the ports I could (excepting infrared) The serial button in connection
manager is pressed down, but it beats me if its not there at all (of
course you have tried un- and reinstall of pc suite?)

Ole

Trouble is, mRouter only displays infrared, no other ports visible.

Perhaps your system had no serial ports available when you installed the app
and its set itself from that?

Or if you have no serial ports on your system when it launches, it only
shows options for whats physically available?

Yep, the "Communication closed" is standard with Symbian mobile phones (this
is true for Sony Ericsson P800 and P900 too). All it does is "wake up" the
mobile phone. It'll then "call back" your computer using the incoming COM
port (as define in Local Service). The trick is make sure the mRouter is
listening on this port - only this one is needed.

Have a look in our Bluetooth Guides at
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449 for step-by-step
instructions with screenshots for this and other procedures.

Hi,

I've the same dongle (BT-TDK) and get the same message in Connection
Manager...
But I got connection with PC-Suite! 1st activate the dongle, then
double-click on the Bluetooth Icon, activate BT on your 6600.

Let the TDK-software search for the foon, double click on Nokia 6600 icon,
activate Bluetooth!

Do you still have problems?

Henk.
