USB datacable for 6310i - modem setup?

Hi,

Hope someone can help.

My notebook ( 18 months old, so obviously obsolete! ) has, I've just
noticed, no com port.

So my standard data cable was less than useless for use except with my
PC.

I've picked up a usb data cable for the notebook, but I can't figure
out how to set up the modem as using the standard Nokia setup, you can
only specify either IR or serial ( com ) ports to be used.

Don't tell me I@m bang out of luck again - is there any way to get
around this and start using the notebook for mobile web access?

I'm in the UK, on o2, if it makes any difference.
