Bluetooth messaging??

Posted: 11-15-2003, 06:27 PM
Wonder if anyone can help on this one (maybe it doesn't even exist yet??)

I have been looking to see if there is an application for the Nok 3650 or
6310i, where one can create a message and send by BLUETOOTH, to another
device.

Bear in mind, the other device would need to receive the message as a normal
text/MMS type message, and not neccesarily have any additional software
loaded for the receipt of such messages.

I found something called Dreamchat, but that requires that both handsets
have the Dreamchat application installed.

Wonder if anyone has any knowledge of such a Bluetooth messaging application
being available?

Cheers

In a "bluejacking" style? The best way is to either put the text you want to
send into a calender entry, and send it via bluetooth, or do the same thing
with a contact, and send that via bluetooth. Other than that, there aren't
actually any apps that will send messages via bluetooth, and if there were,
for other phones to recieve them without any special software running,
they'd have to come in as a contact or calender note (I think "to to's" may
work too). Check www.bluejackq.com for instances of hilarity induced using
this technique.

Funny you should say that! (Bluejacking)!

That's exactly what I was referring to :-)

I thought, however, that someone, somewhere may have created an app (java?)
that would give the ability to send a message via Bluetooth, to be presented
on the recipients phone as a message. Similar to either a text message, or
"flash SMS" if you're aware of that one?

Thanks for the feedback anyway. Guess you too are a little into
"Bluejacking"? :-)

All the best

I do indeed like to partake in a little bluejacking from time to time, pity
not many people leave it turned on on their phones yet! :-(

If you do ever come across an app that'll do what you're after I'd be
interested to hear about it, although I doubt it'll run on my 6310i as it's
slowly becoming a bit dated with all the symbian phones coming out.

I'll bear you in mind "G"

I have the 3650, but on some occasions I find my 6310i more user friendly
:-)

Cheers
