I too was considering "leaving" the internet. It has become saturated with
morons who don't have a clue about the technology on which it's based. I'm
sick of them wining about stuff they make no effort to understand.

Sadly (or not), many people have been infected with this one. They call it
Microsoft Windows 9x. It turns a powerfull piece of equipment into a door
stop. Try upgrading to Windows 2000, it's still a moron magnet but it does
make your computer usable.

Again, both viruses and hackers can be avoided if you learn about the
technology you're using. At least in the old days of boot sector viri there
was an excuse for getting infected, these days it's just people being
spastic enough to run anything they get in their inbox. If it wasn't for
stupid people, *most* of the modern viri would never be heard of.

Again, that would be your Windows virus, I advise you to delete it and
install either Windows 2000 or some flavour of unix.
Maybe you should consider getting a Mac, they aren't vulnerable to viruses
because they're based on an inherently secure operating system.

shezz how soon they forget...

Not sure what the Mac is like now, but at one time it was the most virus ridden
system on the market. It was like you bought a Mac, learned to program, wrote a
virus.
One that comes to mind was/is the bunny virus. While folks watched the eveready
bunny walk along the bottom of the screen, their hard drive was being formatted.

With Windows (any version) besides the buffer overrun attacks, the biggest
problem is the use of OutLook.

lol, I never had the "pleasure" of using an older Mac but they sound fun ;o)
The new Macs run OSX which is based on FreeBSD, in fact, I think it's IS
FreeBSD but with their own closed source GUI (Aqua) running on X. Bottom
line is, as long as you don't run as root any damage a potential virus could
do is very, very limited....Unfortunately, the Windows world is full of lazy
people who run as administrator (I'm guilty of that) so virus damage is
significant.
