Help: Nokia 6100 not detected by PC Suite 5.1 on DKU-5

As per subject title, using Windows98SE.

New phone and new cable, so this is a first time installation.

I installed the driver for the Nokia DKU-5 cable (unconnected as
requested in the manual) and everything seemed fine, machine rebooted
OK. Then connected the cable and Windoze immediately recognised new
hardware and installed the driver - so far, so good! :-)

Installed PC Suite 5.1 software. This proceeds fine until it requests
that the phone be connected, which I did, when it then searches for the
phone. This was eventually found on Com5, which seemed a bit odd since
the DKU-5 cable was connected to a USB port. Still, operation proceeded
OK and machine rebooted fine.

Now the problems begin. I have the Nokia PC Suite icon in the System
Tray and when I click that it brings up the Connection Manager. This
has the green "Serial port connection" icon lit, but displays "No phone
connected" in the phone area. I have checked the Advanced button and
this shows "Communications port COM5" as the selected serial port -
which is where the phone was found when the software was being
installed, even though it is connected on an available USB port.

I have tried rebooting, disconnecting the phone, the cable, rebooting
each time, but the Connection Manager solidly refuses to find the phone.

I have looked in the Windows Device Manager and, when the DKU-5 cable is
connected there are two new entries:
A Multiport Serial Devices entry, with one item in it called "Nokia
Connectivity Adapter Cable DKU-5".
Under Ports (COM & LPT) there is a new item called "Port 1 on Nokia
Adapter (COM5)".

Clicking on the properties for the Nokia Connectivity Adapter Cable
DKU-5 and selecting the Port tab the shows the port is "Port 1 on Nokia
Adapter (COM5)" is selected. Looking at the Troubleshooting Guide it
indicates that I should see "Port 1 on USB Serial Adapter (COM3)" or
similar information here. However there is no mention of the USB Serial
Adapter in any of the information I have, so I suspect it is looking for
a conventional serial port.

Any advice/suggestions to get PC Suite to recognise this phone?
