6310i - turning on the backlight

Posted: 11-08-2003, 04:50 PM
I use the 6310i in my car with a cig-lighter charger, an MDC-1 holder and a
JABRA Bluetooth headset. I find this works fine, but with one small niggle.
The phone's backlight will only stay on for 15 secs and on these dark UK
mornings and nights, its a bit of a nuisance. Does any one know a
combination of profiles and options, or perhaps a *#..# code, (lights on,
lights off), which I can use to keep the backlight on while in the car.

I know I could use the approved car phone kit, but as I have already spent a
vast amount installing and removing two previous car phone kits, I would
like use the above configuration instead. Any thoughts or solutions would
be welcome.

Does the phone recognise this kit as a car kit (i.e. the little graphic of a
car shape) or as a headset (pair of earphones)..?

If the phone thinks it's connected to a pukka car kit then the settings menu
will show "Handsfree" as one of the options, there you will find an option
to keep the lights permanently on while connected to the kit.

If you're out of luck the phone will only think it's got a headset
connected, in which case you can't do this.

It's not something you can control with GSM codes AFAIK.

You will need to go to settings and accessory settings, handsfree, light and
select on.

Experimenting with the handset settings does not work. When connecting the
Bluetooth headset, I get the headset graphic unfortunately, not the car
graphic, so I guess I'm stuffed. Unless anyone knows how to fool the phone
into thinking it's got a car kit connected ?

not without actually having one. it detects the car kit on the bottom
connector, so you'd need at least a cradle, and then some way to rig up the
pins so they acted as if connected (ie, connect them to the car), which
would be just as big a job as installing a real car kit, and would also
probably interfere with the headset connection.
