Can't send email on 9210i

Posted: 10-17-2003, 07:49 PM
I have just bought a 9210i and a £10/month Orange Data account. I connected
first time to the Internet, having set up my usual Freeserve pay as you go
1p per minute whatever account.

I can receive emails through the Messaging Email program, using my
getmail.tyrrell.com account.

However, when I try to send an email using my sendmail.tyrrell.com account,
it tries but times out.

When I try using the default Freeserve settings on smtp.freeserve.net, the
same happens.

2 questions: whats the cheapest way to connect the the internet using the
Orange HSCD Data plan, and any ideas how to get the email to work?

Thanks

Trevor

Hi Trevor

I have had similar problems, but I'm on vodafone. I 'm not sure how our
facilities compare.

I collect all my mail via a vodafone number and gateway. This is free of
charge. The 9210i will only connect via dial up, and not GPRS, but I
believe that you can get a 14400 connection on orange, whereas I can only
get 9600.

If you want to send an email, you have to connect to that providers mail
server via their dial up number. (ie using freeserve settings, you have to
use their access number) You can probably do it FOC if you use you Orange
supplier's email system, but you may have to pay if you dial in to
freeserve.

I have three email accounts, usually run through my home PC. For
travelling use. I read all email via the vodafone provider gateway. To
reply to each of these without cost, I could send the replies back via the
vodafone email system, but usually I prefer to avoid getting further
correspondence locked into that system by setting up an access number and
settings for each of my email addresses. Its not that expensive, as I
write all the emails off line, and then connect to send them.
Considerations would be different If I dealt with a lot more mail on the
move.

I hope that you can make some use of this in your circumstances

Howard

What setting do you have for the email SMTP server?
I think it should be the smtp.orange.net

If that doesn't work why not call Orange helpdesk? It should be 156 fm your
mobile. I just called them for another email problem and they were very
helpful even though my phone (Nokia 6800) is not one they officially support
yet.

Sorry, cannot reply via the group, there is some problem with my ISP which
does not allow messages to upload to newsgroups. If this solution works
perhaps you could post it to the newsgroup for others to read.

Roger

Erm...if i can connect perfectly on a 9210 using HSCSD settings, full speed
28K analog, will that mean that im using HSCSD? it does seem much faster
than 9.6K ...
