Nokia 6120

I recently replaced my Nokia 6120 with a newer Nokia model. When
CellularOne (Mississippi, AL provider) was acquired by Alltel, my 6120
refused to work in Mobile, Alabama. The Alltel network says it does not
recognize my telephone number!

I thought that all cellphones would work with a credit card no matter where
you were? It looks like the FCC should force this as a safety measure. The
wireless companies would make a lot of money off of charges. I thought even
the first bag cell phones on analog 800 Mhz (the first cell phone band)
still worked everywhere.

Anyhow, I took the phone to a Alltel service center in Mobile, Alabama. The
service tech told me my phone was "obsolete" and could not be programmed to
work on Alltel. The phone certainly romes and locks on Alltel and I get
their system but it does not work. Is this a bunch of BS I am hearing from
Alltel? Can I reprogram my Nokia 6120 so that I could use it for credit
card calls in an emergency?

I saw an emergency cellphone on the internet. It would dial 911 and they
said you could use it anywhere to make credit card calls. It had no monthly
fee or time charge.
