Data Cable and Data Capability of Nokia 3530

Posted: 08-19-2003, 11:19 AM
Hi All

I have a nokia 3530. My ISP offers GPRS internet services. Now if I
buy the data cable for Nokia 3530 can I connect it to my PC and use
GPRS on Nokia 3530 to browse the internet on PC (essentially can i use
3530 as a modem??). I know we can do this with Nokia 5110 with data
suite (it uses GSM Data).

Please advice...all help is greatly appreciated..cheers

Well, on a pay-as-you-go type of account, the phone companies don't allow data
calls ... as I unfortunately found out this week.

So you'll need a monthly account with your moby phone company for start - I
expect you already have this though by the sounds of it.

But yes, I don't see why not.

Sumeet mentioned 'data suite', which I'm guessing is some
proprietary software used with data over Nokia phones. On
some (non Nokia) phones I have been able to make circuit-
switched data calls (~9600 BpS) without changing any
software because they emulated an ordinary Hayes-compatible
serial modem.

Do any (or all?) of Nokia's data-capable phones provide the
same convenient modem emulation for circuit-switched data
use?

I have read that it's possible to connect to some GPRS
phones using a serial cable (with the phone as the other end
of the PPP connection, rather than an ISP). If I understand
correctly this should also work without adding software. Do
any of Nokia's GPRS-capable phones work this way?
