Nokia has just announced their third NFC (Near Field Communication) device, named as the Nokia 6216 Classic. This actually comes as their first SIM-based NFC handset, which will allow mobile carriers to set up NFC services through compatible NFC SIM cards.
An NFC device allows users to easily share content such as images, audio files, or contact data between devices, or even make wireless ticketing transactions and paying bills. This can be used as a replacement for credit cards, with all the information stored securely on the SIM card. Payments can be done by simply waving the handset in front of a contactless terminal.
Aside from that, this Nokia 6216 Classic will have support for GSM/EDGE connectivity with 3G, WCDMA, and will run on enhanced Series 40 UI. It will also have 2-inch TFT display with 16.7 million colors and QVGA resolution, 2-megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth, FM radio, and 22MB of internal memory, which is expandable to 8GB via microSDHC card slot.
The Nokia 6216 handset is said to retail at about €150 or $195 and will probably start selling around the third quarter of 2009.
