Sony Ericsson W715 Walkman Phone Review

The Sony Ericsson W715 is the latest Walkman-branded handset to arrive on the market, featuring the latest version of the Walkman music player application, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a high-quality metallic finish.



The Sony Ericsson W715 is a svelte little handset, measuring a mere 95mm x 47.5mm x 14.3 mm, which allows it to easily slide into a pocket or handbag. It sports a sliding form factor, with a metallic silver front and soft-touch rear. The spring-loaded slider action is very smooth and feels solidly constructed. My only gripe was that there's nothing for your thumb to push on when opening the device.

The Sony Ericsson W715's call audio quality was good, and the device seemed to pick up good reception. Callers could hear me clearly, without any fuzz or echo, and I could say the same about the quality at my end, with good volume to boot. The W715 has a 1000mAh battery, which lasted me a good two to three days from a single charge.

The W715's camera can also record video at 15fps, in QVGA(INFO) resolution, much the same as previous Sony Ericsson handsets. The video quality isn't particularly impressive when compared to other handsets currently on the market, but is good enough for emergencies. The settings for both cameras are easily found from the camera viewfinder screen, which allows them to be adjusted on the fly. There aren't a huge number of settings, but the white balance can be adjusted and various effects can be applied, including frames and color effects. From this menu you can also activate the light, self-time and night mode.

The Sony Ericsson W715's user interface is as intuitive as ever, offering everything in well-grouped folders to avoid confusion and excessive searching. Each menu is quite shallow, which means that you never really have to 'dig' through menus to find what you want.
