i860 Firmware Upgrade

Posted: 05-09-2006, 05:59 AM

Using an i860 - A, Motorola phone with Nextel.
The firmware version is R1C0101. I have downloaded the Firmware
Upgrade Utility version R1C0201 ( 40 MB ) to my PC.
I have the USB data cable, have been using it to download Media to
the PC. I have the $15.00 Standard Data Plan with Web and
Bookmarks etc that I don't want to lose.

Considering the size of the download it could take a long time to
install. Should I connect the charger to the phone to insure the
battery does not quit during the install? The data cable has a
charging port.

Anyone know if the Upgrade is worthwhile and that I won't lose any
features I have. Or will it install some restrictions.

The phone is working fine.

Software Upgrades are listed here for IDEN Software Upgrades.

Would appreciate any information. I also posted this to the
alt.cellular.nextel group but no answers.

In case anyone is interested in this:
Motorola assured me I would not lose anything so I installed the
Firmware Upgrade.
Things went smoothly until the end where it re-installs the default
apps like the Calculator and some demos. The message said it could
not communicate with the phone. Tried the suggestions to no avail.
So I removed the cable and powered the phone off and on and
rebooted the PC and ran the install again. This time it went thru
to the end with no problem.
BE SURE to read the Readme.txt file,

When I tried the Calculator, it immediately installed it and it
works. Same with a Demo.

In general everything seems a little faster including the Web.
