Re: Mobiledit feature & V3 Posted: 04-13-2006, 05:03 PM The FAQ at Cingular doesn't seem to address this question, or at least I havenot found the part that does. There is a lot of discussion about sending text messages with or without pictures, but what I want to do is to send a text message directly to the recipient's handset's screen- text only - so the recipient (my wife) doesn't have to "open" the new message. It will be displayed instantaneously. Mobiledit can be used to do this, but I'd like to know how to do it from my own handset. Thanks in advance... >
Re: Mobiledit feature & V3 Posted: 04-13-2006, 07:47 PM I see now that you gave me a link to a yahoo site describing a "flash"message. Thanks you and sorry I missed that the first time around. Curiously, when I follow those instructions, whether composing from a handset or from MOBILedit, it doesn't work. It continues to work if I use MOBILedit to compose a message and then check the "to display" box before transmitting. So there would appear to be some other method than the "flash" instructions given in the link you provided. When the message appears on my V3 screen, it is called a "Quicknote msg". Have you any more ideas about this? Thanks again for your replies. Re: Mobiledit feature & V3 Posted: 04-13-2006, 09:02 PM [POSTED TO alt.cellular.motorola - REPLY ON USENET PLEASE]I sent you a reference to "Flash SMS" because that it what you are trying to send. For more information, "Google is your friend": <http://www.google.com/search?q=flash-sms> p.s. Please don't switch posting styles (top vs bottom) in mid-thread -- it's confusing, and considered a bit rude. Thanks. Re: Mobiledit feature & V3 Posted: 04-15-2006, 02:27 PM Thank you for your reply, and my apologies for the posting gaffe. Now I know better about the protocol. I'm feeling quite dumb about this flash SMS business. In short, I can send a message directly to the screen of my V3 if I use MOBILedit on my PC. But I cannot figure out how to compose the same message successfully on my handset. The "flash" instructions I've found so far don't work, so I'm trying to figure out what MOBILedit embeds in its messages when the option is selected. I'm pretty adept at following instructions and reasonably tech literate, so I don't think this is a case of user error. Some detail that I haven't yet discovered.... All help most welcome. And thanks again for your reply. Re: Mobiledit feature & V3 Posted: 04-19-2006, 07:26 AM [POSTED TO alt.cellular.motorola - REPLY ON USENET PLEASE]Message class settings are specified as part of the "DCS" (Data Coding Scheme) value when a message is submitted by the Mobile Device. For the official definition of DCS values, see the ETSI GSM 03.38 specification (available for download from http://www.etsi.org). "Flash SMS" is DCS Class 0, a value of hex 10. I don't believe you can set the DCS class with the regular messaging in the V3 -- you'd probably need a Java applet. For example, see: * PanuWorld FLASHMSG <http://www.panuworld.net/nuukiaworld/download/flashmsg/help/index.htm> * VJSMSSender Class 0 SMS v1.0 <http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/vjsmssenderclass0sms.shtml> * Alert SMS <http://www.cellular.co.za/downloads/download_free_sms_software.htm> In <0u60g.30553$Jk3.11587@bignews5.bellsouth.net> on Sat, 15 Apr 2006 13:27:02 GMT, local_vintage@REMOVETHIShotmail.com (Just Me) wrote: >I'm feeling quite dumb about this flash SMS business.
