MPT will not open Address Book

MPT installs correctly and Calendar, Text message, Multimedia all work fine.
BUT, whenever I click on Phonebook a message says, "This function is
unavailable because another function or data connection is open, or the
phone is still initializing," then the double screen opens and immediately
closes. The modem is on Com3. A half hour with tech support decided it was
in my computer. Another tech support said to take it to the Store and they
would help. We did exchange phones, same problem.
E-mail to the support just instructed me on manually configuring the modem..
I have gone into System Manager and changed ports with no luck.
There has to be some obscure setting that MPT is looking at that gives the
problem.
The first time I loaded the software and did an install, Phonebook, worked.
But after the next shutdown and start up the problem started and even after
several installations, a master reboot on the phone the problem persists.
