How do I find out what firmware version I have on this phone and how do I
upgrade if necessary. PS I live NW London, so where are Motorola agents in
this area?

Turn the phone off. Press # * and Power at the same time and hold till
the s/w version appears in a few seconds.
You can do upgrades yourself - see www.planetmotox.net
As for whether you NEED an upgrade, what are you trying to solve?
