verizon razr mp3 ringtone problem

Ok, I made an mp3 ringtone and uploaded it to my phone, it plays fine from my inbox, but when I save it and set it as my ringtone, it only plays from the internal speaker, not the louder external speaker. Any ideas what I did wrong? I converted the mp3 to mono at 32Kb/sec.
