L7 menubar

I have just got a new L7 on orange in the UK and the menubar on the left of
the screen
is a pain, does anyone have a way to get rid of it?, I have checked the
manual which doesn't mention it and in the orange book that comes with the
phone it says that the menubar was added by orange as a starting point for
all use of the phone

any help anyone??
