Those bursts have other effects also:

"However, researchers at the Swedish National Institute for Working
Life said they looked at the mobile phone use of 905 people between the
age of 20 and 80 who had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor
and found a link.
"A total 85 of these 905 cases were so-called high users of mobile
phones, that is they began early to use mobile and, or wireless
telephones and used them a lot," the study said.

"The study also shows that the rise in risk is noticeable for tumors on
the side of the head where the phone was said to be used," it added.
Kjell Mild, who led the study, said the figures meant that heavy users
of mobile phones, for instance of who make mobile phone calls for 2,000
hours or more in their life, had a 240 percent increased risk for a
malignant tumor on the side of the head the phone is used.
"The way to get the risk down is to use handsfree," he told Reuters.

He said his study was the biggest yet to look at long-term users of the
wireless phone, which has been around in Sweden in a portable form
since 1984, longer than in many other countries."

The Social Security Deficit issue will be solved one way or another, JG

True but the RF going though the body...
You are not putting your head right next to the transmitter either..

But I agree.. less than 10% of cases of those used phones.. But the
hands free transmits at 2.4ghz and people keeps those next to thier
ears!

What about the 800mhz police radios police, FD, Rescue use? wont those
cause the tumors as well?

Tghe higher the frequency the greater the danger. BUT, at a maximum
output of 300mw it's an extremely low dose. That being said, it's
probably best to avoid hour long calls without the benefit of a headset.

"Mobile phones 'safe for brains'"
<http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4432755.stm>

Using a mobile phone does not increase the risk of developing a brain
tumour, the latest research suggests.

The Danish study, which appears in the journal Neurology, involved
more than 1,000 people.

...

The UK government commissioned an independent group, led by Sir
William Stewart, to look into the safety of mobile phones in the late
1990s.

Its latest review of the evidence also suggests mobile phones do not
harm health.

...

A Swedish study published in 2002 claimed to have found a link
between analogue mobile phones and brain tumours, but experts have
questioned the validity of the findings because of the way the
research was carried out.

Perhaps NTP should patent "A Handheld Device to Produce Brain Cancer"
and sue all wireless handset companies.

Yes, I've heard that ten seconds' exposure to blue light causes
instant cancer.
