RAZR V3 plays MP3 audio files?

Posted: 03-15-2006, 08:04 PM
Hi all, and TIA for any and all responses,

I'm considering buying a Motorola RAZR V3 phone and I'm not
clear if this phone will play MP3 audio files (kinda like an iPod).
The Motorola web site is unclear on this. Also, I can't even find
the RAZR V3x on the Motorola site. Is this phone officially
available in the US yet? I see it for sale on web sites, but can't
find a lot of good information about it. Has anyone bought one
yet? Can you share your thoughts about it?

Thanks,

Perry

The v3 will play MP3 files but the 5MB memory only makes that useful for
snippets you'd use for ringtones. The v3i has a slot for a transflash
card and software to use it as an MP3 player. There is also an iTunes
version of the v3i. Both the v3i and v3x are not officially released in
the US but easily obtained on ebay.

Bruce,

Thanks for the info. At this point I may be willing to spend
the extra $ for the v3x, but I'm a little hesitant to buy a grey
market phone that may not have USA warranty support. I
like the idea of being able to use a transflash device to add
memory capability though. Most of the other features (like
video editing) I would most likely never use.

Just to be clear, my comments were about the v3i which is different from
the v3x. The x is a bit bigger and the i is identical in size to the v3.

The answer is realistically no. It will play MP3 ringtones, although it
will sound like an AM radio, at best. Also, there are no controls for
playing MP3s other than cycling through them as ringtones, and you can't
play them through headphones, at least not stereo or hifi. It's a phone,
with a low-rez camera built in, plain and simple.

If you were looking for a decent mp3 capable phone, try the E815. It
has an expandable transflash slot, free stereo earbuds that double as a
handsfree kit, and even has playlist controls.

I use the mobile phone tools software with a usb cable. You can get both on
eBay fairly cheap.
