MPT and Outlook sync

Thanks for your time, Clarence. I found, in Outlook, where to turn off
email and make it a workgroup thing, did that, let Office2000 install
that function but it still doesn't work.

MPT still says Outlook's "Internet Mail Only" (I don't know how
internet mail can effect contacts) so won't sync.

Outlook now has the MPT Sync menu item. When I click that, it syncs
with Outlook Distress.

I'm going to give up. I certainly don't have time to try to figure out
Outlook's non-supported/non-documented hidden BS.

The POP3 thing should be separate from Contacts. I don't know why MPT
would make note of that, unless it is strictly informational.

Can you add a contact in Outlook manually? I think not. You probably need
to create a "personal.pst". You might search help for personal.pst before
you give up.

There is a whole pile of stuff in the built in help, and in the
support.micsoft.com Knowledge Base. It is kind of awkward to set up email
just to use it as a sync between two devices, though.

MPT will write to an Access database. I would explore how to work with
that and the Palm. Or, have you tried using MPT, instead of Outlook, to
start the sync? I don't use the sync item in Outlook (I don't use Outlook
on this machine). But MPT does sync with it. It's just the standard
installation. I added a POP3 connection for some testing, but I don't use
it, normally.

Outlook 2000 had two installation modes: Internet Mail Only and
Corporate/Workgroup. The latter lets you use it with Exchange Server and a
Microsoft Mail Post Office. IMO means just POP and IMAP accounts only (as
well as a short-lived O2K feature called Net Folders, which never worked
very well). The two different modes went away as of Outlook 2002 (folks
found it confusing and limited, as there was no reason to prevent C/W users
from having IMAP accounts).

IMO does NOT mean you can't have local contacts. It simply means that you
can't connected to various LAN-based email servers.

Not to confuse matters... but Outlook 2000's contacts can be stored in
several ways. The optimal way is to store them in your .pst file (this .pst
has NOTHING to do with the PST program used for motorola phones).

So, if your contacts are stored in a .pab file, instead, chances are that
MPT might have a problem with it. Another thing to check is to make sure the
MPT works with Outlook 2000 at all.

Note that Outlook Express and Outlook are not related. They're done by
entirely different product groups at Microsoft, and their name similarity is
quite unfortunate. OE is Microsoft's "Internet Mail and News" client simply
given a new name.
